Journey to 2036
The Abbotsford School District is embarking on an innovative 12-year project titled "Journey to 2036," aiming to chronicle the educational journeys of a select group of students from Grade 1 through to their high school graduation in 2036. This initiative seeks to provide a unique, longitudinal perspective on student development within the district.
What Is the “Journey to 2036” Project?
“Journey to 2036” is a long-term video series featuring a select cohort of Grade 1 students from Clearbrook Elementary. The project aims to document their growth, aspirations, and school experiences through monthly video updates. These videos will provide the community with an authentic glimpse into the lives of young learners and their educational progression over the years.

Monthly Conversations with the Superintendent
Superintendent Nosek, will engage monthly with these students, discussing their aspirations, dreams, and school experiences. Nosek emphasizes that the project is designed to amplify student voices, offering the community a window into the evolving perspectives of young learners. He notes, "We were doing some brainstorming about how we might continue to engage our broader community and thought wouldn't it be fun to just go and engage our younger learners – ask them some interesting questions and just have fun with it."
Why This Project Stands Out
The series will spotlight a cohort of Grade 1 students from Clearbrook Elementary. While acknowledging that some students may relocate and new participants might join, the district is committed to documenting the group's progression through the Abbotsford education system. Nosek adds, "Our hope is, over time, to have this really compelling body of work that captures the growth of students and in some way to hear how their hopes and dreams shift over time."
Parents and community members have already expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative, recognizing its potential to highlight student growth in a unique and inspiring way. Unlike other education-focused projects, “Journey to 2036” offers a rare longitudinal perspective that tracks students' development over an extended period.
The school board also sees this project as an opportunity to connect with the community. Nosek emphasized, “This is a neat way to show some of the magic that happens with the work we do.”
