Celebrating Long-Term Service: Jennifer Crockett’s 31 Years of Supporting Student Success

January 29, 2026

With 31 years in the Abbotsford School District, Jennifer Crockett has made a lasting impact through her work as an educator, career facilitator, and counsellor. She currently works as a counsellor at Robert Bateman Secondary School and has spent 21 years at the school.

Tell us about your career journey in the district

I began my career straight out of university at the Career Technical Centre, which was a standalone building at the time. I taught a range of subjects, including Social Studies, English, Math, Earth Science, and Career and Personal Planning, and spent 10 years there.

I later moved to Robert Bateman Secondary, where I taught senior English for about 15 years. From there, I transitioned into a careers role before moving into counselling, which I have been in for the past 12 years.

What has been your favourite part of your work?

I do not think I could narrow it down to one role. I love counselling and supporting students one-on-one, but I also miss elements of the classroom. Each role I have held has brought different strengths and has been meaningful in its own way.

What makes the Abbotsford School District special to you?

It is the sense of community. I have been fortunate to work with supportive colleagues across different buildings and to build strong, lasting relationships. There is a strong culture of collaboration across the district that encourages teamwork and shared learning.

Do you have a moment or experience that stands out?

It is difficult to choose just one. Over the years, I have worked with many students, and it is incredibly rewarding to see where they go after graduation. I often run into former students in the community, and some return years later to reconnect, which is always meaningful.

What do you hope your legacy will be?

I hope to be remembered as someone who cared deeply about students, worked hard, continued to grow, and met students where they were as their needs changed over time.
